Requests and associated messages can be received automatically from other libraries via the ILL Message Handler in Relais ILL. The ILL Message Handler can support several formats: ISO ILL (ISO 10160/1) and Generic script (GSM).

Generic script requests and messages are received and sent via email in an eye-readable, text-based, tagged format. Find a list of the types of messages supported and the tags used below.

As the ILL Message Handler receives an email, it parses the identifiers and tags.  For an ILL Request message, Relais adds a new request to the database.  For all other message types, Relais does the appropriate database updates as the message is parsed.

As the ILL Message Handler sends an email, it creates the appropriate message using the following tags and identifiers.
