Reshelve items
Digby can be used to scan items to reshelve. This can be helpful when tracking statistics for in-library use of materials, such as when student workers collect materials used by patrons in order to reshelve them in the stacks, or when mishelved items have been discovered. Digby's reshelving functionality allows library workers to save time by making it possible to scan books while they are on the floor instead of having to first return materials to the Circulation desk for processing before reshelving.
The reshelve functionality will also alert users when Missing, Claimed Returned, Claimed Never Had, or Lost items are scanned, so they can be returned to the desk for further evaluation if needed, or when items that fulfill a hold (either in the scanning location or another branch) are scanned. It also displays staff notes for items (ex. "Book has an accompanying CD") and allows the handling of duplicate barcodes by letting the user review and select the correct item linked to the barcode.
To begin scanning items to reshelve:
- Tap Reshelve Items on the Digby home screen.
- To scan an item, hold your mobile device over the item's barcode so that the barcode appears in the camera window at the top of the screen.
- If better lighting is needed in order to scan the barcode, tap the lightbulb icon to the right of the Type or scan barcode field at the top of the screen to turn on your device's flashlight. Tap the icon again to turn the flashlight off.
- To manually enter a barcode instead, tap the Type or scan barcode field at the top of the screen. Your mobile device's keyboard will launch, and the barcode can be typed in.
- If you will only be entering barcodes manually, the camera window can be deactivated by tapping the camera icon located to the right of the Type or scan barcode field. Tap the icon again to re-enable barcode scanning.
- Items with a status of Missing, Claimed Returned, Claimed Never Had, or Lost that are scanned will display a message informing the user of the item's current status and directing them to return the item to the desk.
- Items with staff notes will prompt the user to acknowledge the note before proceeding. Tap Continue to acknowledge the note.
- If a barcode that is scanned/entered is linked to multiple items (such as when more than one item has the same barcode in a group of institutions) the user will be prompted to select the correct title from a list of matches. Tap a title to select it and then tap OK to continue.
- If the item is successfully scanned, a green banner will display near the top of the screen indicating that the item was marked as used in-library. If the item was not found, a red banner will display the message "Item not found." Tap the x on a banner to clear the message.
- If an item fills a hold (at the scanning location or any other branch), a pop-up will appear when the item is scanned, alerting the user that the item fills a hold and which branch the hold needs to be sent to. Click OK to dismiss the message.
- The item will now appear in the scanned items list. The following information about the item will also display:
- 標題
- 著者
- Publication date
- Call number
- 位置
- 條碼
- Pickup location
- Status
- OCLC 編號
