Create an institutional stanza

Learn how to create an institutional stanza in EZproxy configuration.

You can create an institutional stanza for use only in your institution's configuration.

To create an institutional stanza:

  1. Select Stanza Maintenance from the left navigation.
  2. Click Create Institutional Stanza. The screen will reload.
  3. Scroll down to the General section and fill out the following required fields:
    • Name: Enter a name for the stanza. Stanza names cannot contain leading spaces or the following special characters: /  \  .  (  )
    • Description: Enter a user-friendly description to identify the stanza.
    • Stanza: Enter the stanza directive.

 Note: The Name, Description, and Stanza fields will be highlighted in red until they have been completed. The Filename and Version fields cannot be edited.

  1. Once the above fields have been completed, the Save button will appear above the general section. Click Save to create the stanza. Once you have clicked Save, the Version field will change from New to 1.

      Click Save to submit the stanza for review and deployment in a preproduction EZproxy configuration. A stanza cannot be edited once it has been submitted for review. After you click Save, the Make Institutional Stanza Public and Deprecate options are activated:

      • Click Make Institutional Stanza Public to share your institution's stanza with other Hosted EZproxy users.
        • The stanza will remain public permanently.
        • Stanza maintenance remains your institution's responsibility.
        • If a Public Institutional Stanza is created and is widely used, OCLC reserves the right to elevate the stanza to an OCLC Approved Stanza. Once the stanza is changed to an OCLC Approved Stanza, OCLC Support will perform all maintenance on the stanza.

      Deprecate
      (Obsolete)      		 Click Deprecate to move the stanza from Active to Deprecated. A deprecated stanza:
      • Is still fully functional
      • Can be edited
      • Cannot be added to a new institution but will remain in use for any institution that added it prior to it be deprecated

       Caution:  A stanza cannot return to an Active state once it has been deprecated. This is to prevent a stanza from being temporarily reactivated in order to add it to an institution. Stanzas that may still be of use for other institutions should not be deprecated.

      After you click Deprecate, the Obsolete option is activated. You can click Obsolete to move the stanza from Deprecated to Obsolete if the following conditions are true:

      • You must be able to edit the stanza.
      • The stanza cannot be currently associated with any institution.
      • The stanza is not connected to any other stanza via a required pairing or a dependent ordering.
