Update an authentication file (textfile)

Learn how to upload an authentication file in EZproxy configuration.

EZproxy can perform user authentication using a text file. EZproxy configuration allows text file authentication to be updated using a simple interface. More information on formatting a text file for user authentication in EZproxy can be viewed here.

To update a text file:

  1. Select Authentication from the left navigation.
    • The Authentication screen will have text file authentication as the first authentication method.
    • The text file will have User File as its Authentication type.
  2. Click the Edit button (Screenshot of the EZproxy one place edit button). The User File edit screen opens.
  3. From the User File edit screen, click Choose File to upload a text file to the EZproxy server.
  4. Use the file explorer on your computer to select the text file containing usernames and passwords that EZproxy should use for authentication. The text file should:
    • Be a plain text file using .txt file format
    • Contain usernames and passwords using the syntax described here.
  5. Click Upload to apply the text file to the EZproxy server.
Note: The uploaded text file will overwrite any existing text file on the EZproxy server.
  6. The Tag field must be populated if this is your first time uploading a text file. Enter a unique name for this authentication method in the Tag field.
    • The field should only contain alpha-numerical characters in lowercase.
    • You are not required to select the Use auth tag checkbox.
  7. Click Save to save your changes.
