SirsiDynix Symphony with CapiraMobile

Learn how interact with certain CapiraMobile features if SirsiDynix Symphony is your connected ILS.

Overview

Each ILS product offers different features with respect to APIs used by third parties like OCLC in order to get data. In addition, each library can often customize their ILS setup, which makes it difficult to have a one-size-fits-all guide for some features. For these reasons, OCLC is often unable to help configure this information directly and library staff will need to discuss available options and values with their ILS administrator and/or vendor.

Carousels

To add a carousel to your app:

  1. Use the Info Desk function to create a list of records to include in your carousel.
  2. Enter the name of the Info Desk as the ILS Record Set Code in the CapiraMobile Staff Dashboard.

Enhanced metadata display fields

Some additional metadata fields are available to be enabled. These fields will display in the app's search results, not in an item's details. For more information, see Enhanced metadata display. The following additional fields can be enabled when using SirsiDynix Symphony:

  • Accelerated Reader
  • 版本
  • Series
  • OCLC編號
  • 索書號
  • Audience
  • 館藏
  • ISBN(s)
  • UPS/ISXN

Hold options

The features below are allowed by the ILS, but may vary depending on your library's implementation.

  • Cancel a hold
  • Modify hold pickup location
  • Suspend/resume a hold
  • User can select suspend/resume date

Search filters

Libraries can choose to configure any filters if supported by their ILS. It is not mandatory to use all filters or groups configured in your ILS, which allows each library to determine their ideal setup for patrons.

If no search filter is chosen by a user, or no options are displayed, the default is ALL.

  • The default search material/format used if no option is provided or none is selected by a user is All Materials.
  • The default search library/location used if no option is provided or none is selected by a user is All Libraries/Scopes.
  • The default search index used if no option is provided or none is selected by a user is Keyword/Everything.
  • The default sort options used if no option is provided or none is selected by a user is dependent on your ILS, but it is usually Relevancy.
  • The default audience used if no option is provided or none is selected by a user is dependent on your ILS, but it is usually All Audiences.
  • The default collection used if no option is provided or none is selected by a user is dependent on your ILS, but it is usually Everything.

Search filter examples

These apply to libraries running SirsiDynix Symphony. To learn how to add a filter, see Search filters.

SirsiDynix Symphony filter examples

Material/Format filters

These filters are typically the same material codes configured in your ILS for the itemType field. You may need to consult your ILS administrator or vendor for a full list of these values.

Note: Two itemType values can be combined into a single filter separated by a comma. For example, to create a filter called “Movies” to search both DVDs and BluRays, enter a value similar to “itemType:DVD,itemType:BLURAY”, but with the field name and value specific to your system.

Example display name Value
Books itemType:BOOK
Video Games itemType:VIDEOGAME
Playaways itemType:PLAYAWAY
Audiobook CDs itemType:ACDBOOK or itemType:AUDIOBOOK
Large Print itemType:LARGEPRINT
DVDs itemType:DVD
Blu-Rays itemType:BLURAY

Index filters

These are typically the same for all Sirsi products and customers. You may use the table below as a reference.

Note: The general filter is intended to search all bibliographic record fields for the phrase provided, however it tends to return results that do not have the search phrase in its Title or Author field and may be confusing for users.

Example display name Value
關鍵字 GENERAL
標題 TITLE
著者 AUTHOR
Series SERIES
Subject SUBJECT
Periodical Title PERTITLE
Medical Subject MESH
Publication Year publicationYear

Library filters

These filters will vary based on how each library system chooses to configure their library policy filters, but these are usually upper-case words.

Example display name Example Value
Acton Memorial Library ACTON
Algoma Library ALGOMA
Cedar Point Library CEDARP
Dowd Main Library DOWD-MAIN
Dowd Branch Library DOWD-BR
Zenia Public Library ZENIAPL

Sort filters

The Sirsi Web Services API does not currently support the ability to sort results.

Audience filters

SirsiDynix typically allows configurations of multiple itemCategory fields (itemCategory1, itemCategory2, etc). Each library is different, and the values require you to specify the itemCategory and the value for Sirsi to limit by. The value should be in the format of <field>:<code>.

Example display name Example Value
Adult itemCategorya:ADULT
Children itemCategory4:JUV
Teens itemCategory2:TEEN

Collection filters

SirsiDynix typically allows configurations of multiple itemCategory fields (itemCategory1, itemCategory2, etc), or the location policy field. Each library system is different, and the values require you to specify the itemCategory / location and the value for Sirsi to limit by. The value should be in the format of <field>:<code>.

Example display name Example Value
New Materials itemCategory3:NEW-MATERIAL
Special and Rare Books location:SPECIAL
Criterion Collection itemCategory1:CRITERION
Items On Order location:ON-LOCATION
